In a speech he made at a graduation ceremony, Denzel Washington said that, at the start of his career, he was told to ensure that he had an alternative solution to fall back on. He always preferred the concept of “Falling Forward.”

According to him, mental strength is about recognizing that, if you fail, it’s better to keep trying, not to give up. He describes how he failed his first auditions but placed the importance on trying again, preparing for the next casting call, until he broke through. Failures pave the way for success!

Thomas Edison failed 1000 times before inventing the light bulb in his 1001st experiment! Denzel insists that we will all fail at some point. Failure is part of the path to victory.

You may be prepared for success but are you prepared for failure?

“If you don’t fail, you’re not even trying… To get something you never had, you have to do something you never did.”

Do you prefer to reassure yourself with a back-up solution? Or prepare yourself to bounce back after a failure?

What have been your experiences?
